Hello,
First, I would like to thank you for your time and consideration to donating to our program, Austin’s Memorial Hockey Foundation. Our foundation was created to honor the life of one of our kids who took his own. Several parents wanted to help give back to the sport that he loved so much. Austin played roller hockey at Skate Station of Mandarin for several seasons and was one of our best players in the league. We have also created a new championship trophy in his name, Austin Memorial Cup. During the creation of the foundation, we discussed what we would like the foundation to contribute to and how it could help the kids and the growth of roller hockey. Currently we are estimating about $35,000 to reach our goal.
The foundation would like to raise funds for several reasons. First, to purchase new gear for new kids coming to tryout hockey for the first time. Hockey is not a cheap sport by any means. We offer clinics at the beginning of each season for kids to come out and try hockey or even just to learn how to skate for the first time. We don’t expect parents to go and spend several hundred dollars on new gear not knowing if their kid will even like the sport. So to help out, we have what we call the gear closet. It has some very old and very worn out gear that we loan to the kids during clinics. During that time, if the kid wants to sign up and play, the parents then go buy new gear. But it doesn’t always come in before the first game or even second game, so the kids still use our borrowed gear. The issue with the borrowed gear as I said before, it’s old and worn, but also, we don’t have much left or hardly any matching sets. Therefore we would like to purchase various sizes of new gear sets to be available for these new kids to use.
Once we have raised enough to purchase enough new gear for new kids to borrow. We then would move to a scholarship type program of helping anywhere from one to several kids per season and paying their registration fees. Current registration fee is $170 a season. That price alone can steer some parents and kids away from joining the league, much less the cost of all the new gear they would need. So we want to help a few parents that could use some help financially by paying for the registration to allow their kids to join us. The more funds we have though, the more kids we can help with or find other ways to contribute to them such as paying for jerseys. We would also purchase training gear type items to help improve our program and kids hockey abilities.
Lastly, as our list of donors and contributors grow, our funds continue to increase, we would start helping our kids join our travel hockey team. Skate Station has youth travel roller hockey team called the Jacksonville LemonHeadz. We travel all over Florida and into Georgia all year long so you can imagine the expenses that add up. The contributions from the Non-Profit could go towards the team registration fees for these tournaments or even toward new uniforms. If we manage to get more funds than what would cover all these expenses, we would start contributing back to Skate Station to help improve the quality of the facility to facilitate all the public skate sessions and hockey that they host.
Again, I would like to thank you for your time and consideration for contributing to Austin’s Memorial Hockey Foundation and helping grow our community of youth athletics. If you would like to contribute, just let us know and we can send the details to donate right over. No donations is too big or too small. Each bit will go a long ways.
Thank you,
Johnny Long
